Cask Ale Pub of the Year Award
Real ale, kept perfectly.
About this category
This award recognises a pub whose cask ale is kept and served perfectly, with a range that rewards regulars and supports brewers. Judges look for quality, range, cellar skill and how the pub champions real ale.
Eligibility
Open to UK pubs serving cask ale.
Judging criteria
- Quality and condition
- Range and rotation
- Cellar skill
- Support for brewers
- Staff knowledge
Qualitative criteria
Every pint as the brewer intended.
Metrics
- Lines of cask
- Ales served per year
- Local breweries supported and quality accreditations
Additional criteria
Entries should include a short description of the pub, photographs where helpful, supporting figures such as trade, covers, events or reviews, and, where possible, comments from regulars. Figures can be given as ranges and nothing in an entry is shared beyond the judging panel. Every entry should show a commitment to responsible serving. Judges consider the size, setting and ownership of every pub, so a single room village local competes on equal terms with a large town centre pub or a small group.
